Introduction to the Korean Health Techonology Appraisal Process: Focus on Diabetes

Abstract

Bong-Min Yang, Ph.D. (in economics) is Professor in the School of Public Health at the Seoul National University, South Korea. Professor Yang has written extensively about health care system in Korea and East Asia. His recent publications include, “Impact of Out-of-Pocket Payment in Outpatient Care in Korea,” Health Policy (2005), and “Economic Evaluation and Pharmaceutical Reimbursement Reform in South Korea’s National Health Insurance,” January/February Health Affairs (2008). Professor Yang has worked as consultant at WHO, UNDP, and the World Bank. For the Korean government, he served as Chairperson of Health Insurance Reform Committee (2003-2004), and Chairperson of the Drug Pricing and Reimbursement Committee (2005-2006). Currently he is President of KAHTA (Korean Association of Health Technology Assessment), and Chair-elect, ISPOR Asia Consortium.
