Health Technology Appraisal in China: Diabetes Interventions

Abstract

Dr. Liu is Professor of Economics and Executive Director for The Health Economics and Management Institute (HEMI), Peking University. He serves on the State Council Expert Panel on the Urban Insurance Experiment Program, the Chinese Ministry of Health Commission for Emergent Public Health. Prior to PKU, he served as fulltime faculty at University of Southern California, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and was the 2004-2005 President of the Chinese Economists Society. Dr. Liu serves as Co-Editor for Value in Health, the official journal of International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research.

His research interests include health economics and development, and cost effectiveness analysis of medical technology. In his advisory role to Chinese government, he has been a strong advocate of strengthening public financing on demand side through social insurance, while mobilizing societal resources on supply side to maximize delivery capacity through market mechanisms.
