Analysis of factors influencing medical expenditures and countermeasures in China
Presenter: Lvlin Zhou, Jiangsu University
Abstract
Methodology: Medical expenditures is decided both by the supplier and the demander in the market of medical service. Based on the relevant qualitative and quantitative literature data, we summed up the main factors influencing demand and supply, and using medical expenditures (the demander’s medical expenditures and the supplier’s medical expenditures) as the dependent variables, built the multivariate regression model respectively, then made regression analysis of the demander’s medical expenditures or the supplier’s medical expenditures by the statistical software SPSS 14.0, finally we found out the relationship between the demander and medical expenditures as well as the relationship between the supplier and medical expenditures.
Results: If the number of health technical personnel in health institutions being stated, the average business income of each hospital increases 1,000 Yuan, medical expenditures will increase 0.0185 billion Yuan accordingly. If the average business income of each hospital being stated, the number of health technical personnel in health institutions every increases 10,000, medical expenditures will decrease 1.715 billion Yuan accordingly.
If the total Consumer Price Index and per capita health expenditures being stated, the proportion of government health expenditures every increases 1%, medical expenditures will increase 2.8713 billion Yuan. If the proportion of government health expenditures and per capita health expenditures being stated, the total Consumer Price Index every increases 1%, medical expenditures will decrease 0.67 billion Yuan. If the proportion of government health expenditures and the total Consumer Price Index being stated, per capita health expenditures every increases 1 Yuan, medical expenditures will increase 1.3474 billion Yuan.
Conclusions: It shows that the factors influencing medical expenditures act as follows: the increase in medical expenditures has positive correlation with the factors such as the average business income of each hospital, the proportion of government health expenditures, and per capita health expenditures, etc., and negative correlation with the total Consumer Price Index and the number of health technical personnel in. health institutions.
Proposals: Command the hospital business income (mostly unreasonable income); develop community health services vigorously, and urge people to receive a community medical service when having a trivial disease, thereby per capita health expenditures can be reduced; control the medicine expenses and examination expenses from large equipment. Enhance the financial investment in health departments actively, and endeavor to decrease market behavior of health departments.
