Equity in health care: Evidence from Lebanon

Abstract
Bio: Akiko Maeda, a Japanese national, is a health economist with 20 years of experience in international development in the Middle East, South and East Asia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. She specializes in health systems reforms in developing and middle income countries, with particular focus on health insurance and health financing reforms. She currently holds the position of Health, Nutrition and Population Sector Manager for the Middle East and North Africa Region of the World Bank. Before joining the World Bank, she held various positions with the Asian Development Bank (Manila, Philippines), UNICEF (Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and Aden, Yemen) and UNDP (Aden, Yemen). Dr. Maeda has a Ph.D. in Health Economics from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. In addition, she holds a Master of Arts in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Harvard University; a Master of Arts in the Middle Eastern Studies (Political Economy), also from Harvard University; and a Bachelor degree in Biochemistry from Princeton University.
