Demand for health care and public health insurance in Mexico

Presenter: Alberto Prieto Patron, University of Lausanne

Abstract

I analyze the demand for health care services and its interaction with insurance and provider's attributes. I pretend to shed some light on the role of attributes on the demand for health care as well as on the insurance choice using data of the Mexican Health and Nutrition Survey 2006. I believe that the estimation on moral hazard and self selection can be significantly improved by taking in account the role of attributes in health care as well as by correcting for overestimation of health status for some specific groups.
